Pakistan’s HIV Crisis: Cases Surge to 370,000 Amid Healthcare Failures
Pakistan faces a critical health challenge as HIV cases hit 370,000, with experts warning of a transition into the general population and a severe lack of awareness among patients.
پاکستان میں ایچ آئی وی کے کیسز میں تشویشناک اضافہ دیکھا گیا ہے، جس کے باعث متاثرین کی کل تعداد 3 لاکھ 70 ہزار سے تجاوز کر گئی ہے۔ طبی ماہرین کا کہنا ہے کہ یہ وائرس اب صرف مخصوص طبقوں تک محدود نہیں رہا بلکہ عام شہریوں اور خاص طور پر بچوں میں بھی سرایت کر رہا ہے، جبکہ حیران کن طور پر 79 فیصد متاثرہ افراد اپنی بیماری سے تاحال بے خبر ہیں۔
سابق وفاقی وزیر صحت ڈاکٹر ظفر مرزا نے بچوں میں ایچ آئی وی کے پھیلاؤ کو ہیلتھ سسٹم کی ناکامی سے تعبیر کیا ہے۔ ڈاکٹر قائد سعید اور ڈاکٹر رانا جواد اصغر نے واضح کیا کہ غیر محفوظ انجکشن کا استعمال اور آلودہ خون کی منتقلی اس وباء کے پھیلاؤ کے بنیادی اسباب ہیں۔
ماہرین نے حکومت سے مطالبہ کیا ہے کہ بلڈ بینکس کی کڑی نگرانی اور انفیکشن کنٹرول کے طریقوں کو بہتر بنایا جائے تاکہ اس سنگین صورتحال پر قابو پایا جا سکے۔
دوسری جانب راولپنڈی کے بینظیر بھٹو ہسپتال میں ایچ آئی وی سینٹر کی غیر فعالی اور مریضوں کے ڈیٹا کی عدم دستیابی نے انتظامی کارکردگی پر سوالیہ نشان کھڑے کر دیے ہیں۔ محکمہ صحت کا کہنا ہے کہ سسٹم میں خرابی کی وجہ سے ڈیٹا جاری نہیں ہو سکا، تاہم اڈیالہ جیل میں گزشتہ برس 148 کیسز سامنے آئے تھے۔ حکام کے مطابق ایچ آئی وی سے متعلق مکمل اعداد و شمار جلد مرتب کر لیے جائیں گے۔

Pakistan is witnessing a rapid surge in HIV cases, with the total number of infected individuals reaching 370,000. Health experts warn that the disease is no longer confined to high-risk groups but is spreading into the general population and among children. Alarmingly, approximately 79% of those infected are unaware of their HIV status. Former Federal Health Minister Dr. Zafar Mirza described the rising cases among children as a significant failure of the healthcare system. Experts such as Dr. Quaid Saeed and Dr. Rana Jawad Asghar identified unsafe injections and contaminated blood transfusions as primary drivers of the epidemic. They emphasized the need for stricter monitoring of blood banks, comprehensive screening, and ending the use of unsafe syringes. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the HIV center at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi is currently inactive, and there is a lack of centralized patient data. While official records are delayed due to technical issues, 148 HIV cases were reported in Adiala Jail last year.
