Pakistan Seeks Official Explanation from India Over Chenab River Water Shortage
Pakistan has formally approached India for an explanation regarding a significant decrease in water flow in the Chenab River at Head Marala, citing a violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.
اسلام آباد میں وزارتِ آبی وسائل کے ذرائع نے بتایا ہے کہ پاکستان نے دریائے چناب میں پانی کے بہاؤ میں ہونے والی غیر معمولی کمی پر بھارت سے باضابطہ طور پر جواب طلب کر لیا ہے۔
پاکستانی حکام کا موقف ہے کہ ہیڈ مرالہ کے مقام پر پانی کی اس قلت سے سندھ طاس معاہدے کی شقوں کی صریحاً خلاف ورزی ہوتی ہے اور بھارت کا یہ اقدام دوطرفہ معاہدے کے منافی ہے۔
اس سنگین معاملے پر پاکستان کے انڈس واٹر کمشنر نے اپنے بھارتی ہم منصب سے رابطہ کیا ہے اور صورتحال کی مکمل تفصیلات فراہم کرنے کا مطالبہ کیا ہے۔
وزارتِ آبی وسائل کے مطابق، دریائے چناب میں پانی کی مقدار میں یہ کمی معاہدے کے تحت طے شدہ طریقہ کار کے مطابق نہیں ہے، جس پر پاکستان نے اپنے شدید تحفظات کا اظہار کر دیا ہے۔

Sources within the Ministry of Water Resources in Islamabad have stated that Pakistan has officially sought an explanation from India regarding the significant decrease in water inflow in the Chenab River.
Pakistan maintains that the reduction in water flow at Head Marala is a direct violation of the provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty. The authorities view this as a clear breach of the long-standing agreement by India.
In response to the situation, the Pakistani Indus Water Commissioner has contacted his Indian counterpart to demand a comprehensive report and specific details regarding the causes of this sudden drop in water levels.
The Ministry of Water Resources emphasized that the unusual decline in the Chenab River's water volume does not align with the established procedures of the Indus Waters Treaty, leading Pakistan to formally record its serious concerns.
