PTA Flags Tower Shortage as Major Obstacle to 5G Rollout in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has expressed concerns over the slow installation of telecom towers, noting that only 40% of licensed companies are actively building the infrastructure required for 5G launch.
پاکستان ٹیلی کمیونیکیشن اتھارٹی (پی ٹی اے) نے ملک میں فائیو جی (5G) ٹیکنالوجی کی راہ میں حائل سب سے بڑی رکاوٹ کی نشاندہی کر دی ہے۔ اتھارٹی کے مطابق ٹیلی کام ٹاورز کی سست رفتار تنصیب اس جدید ٹیکنالوجی کے نفاذ میں ایک بڑا چیلنج ہے، جس پر ایکشن لیتے ہوئے غیر فعال لائسنس یافتہ کمپنیوں کی باز پرس شروع کر دی گئی ہے۔
پی ٹی اے کی جاری کردہ رپورٹ کے مطابق، پاکستان میں موجود کل 15 لائسنس ہولڈرز میں سے محض 40 فیصد کمپنیاں ہی ٹاورز کی تنصیب میں سنجیدہ دکھائی دیتی ہیں۔ اعداد و شمار بتاتے ہیں کہ صرف 9 کمپنیاں ملک کے مختلف حصوں میں ٹاورز لگانے کے حوالے سے فعال ہیں، جبکہ بقیہ کمپنیوں کا کردار نہ ہونے کے برابر ہے۔
مزید برآں، اتھارٹی نے انکشاف کیا کہ صرف 6 لائسنس ہولڈرز ایسے ہیں جنہوں نے اب تک 50 یا اس سے زائد ٹاورز نصب کرنے کا ہدف پورا کیا ہے، جبکہ دیگر کمپنیوں کی کارکردگی انتہائی مایوس کن رہی ہے۔
ریگولیٹری باڈی کا کہنا ہے کہ فائیو جی سروسز کے خواب کو شرمندہ تعبیر کرنے کے لیے جدید ترین انفرااسٹرکچر اور ٹاورز کا ملک گیر جال بچھانا وقت کی اہم ضرورت ہے۔ اس عمل میں تاخیر فائیو جی کے مستقبل پر اثر انداز ہو سکتی ہے۔
موجودہ صورتحال کو بہتر بنانے کے لیے پی ٹی اے نے تمام متعلقہ اسٹیک ہولڈرز کو 18 مئی تک اپنی تجاویز اور سفارشات جمع کرانے کا حکم دیا ہے تاکہ فائیو جی کی راہ میں حائل تمام تکنیکی اور انتظامی رکاوٹیں دور کی جا سکیں۔
English Translation
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has identified the limited deployment of telecom towers as a major hurdle in the nationwide rollout of 5G technology, prompting the regulator to take notice of inactive license holders.
According to the PTA, out of 15 licensed companies in the country, only 40% have actively installed telecom towers in various regions. Data suggests that only nine license holders are currently operational in expanding tower infrastructure across Pakistan.
The authority further revealed that only six license holders have managed to install 50 or more towers, while the performance of the remaining companies has stayed significantly below expectations.
PTA emphasized that the timely installation of modern telecom infrastructure and towers is absolutely essential for the successful launch and optimization of 5G services.
In light of these challenges, the PTA has invited suggestions from all stakeholders, directing them to submit their recommendations by May 18. This move aims to streamline the process and remove bottlenecks hindering the implementation of 5G in Pakistan.
